Death was due to a heart attack, according to Wapello County Medical Examiner Dr. Warren DeKraay. Edward had lived in Ottumwa most of his life, and he had been an employee of John Morrell & Company for 41 years prior to his retirement in 1961. He was an Army veteran of World War I, entering the service July 23, 1913, in Ottumwa. He was discharged at Camp Dodge on February 3, 1919. Surviving were one sister, Mrs. Margaret Hux of Ottumwa and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one brother. Edward's funeral was at the Johnson Funeral Chapel in charge of the Rev. Roscoe Morrison of Rutledge Full Gospel Church. Military services were held at the grave in charge of the local American Legion post.
