Edward passed away May 18, 2015 at Roosevelt Memorial Medical Center in Culbertson, MT. Ed was born on the family farm southeast of Belfield on March 9, 1935. He was the oldest of five children born to Valentine and Veronica (Huschka) Kubischta. Ed attended country school and later graduated from South Heart High School in 1955. He then took a correspondence course from home to earn a degree in Radio and Television Repair. Ed worked for a year in Richardton before opening Kubischta Radio and TV in Belfield. At the age of nine, Ed taught himself to play the accordion. He loved old time music and playing for dances throughout his life. In 1970 Ed married Judi Myers -Osterhout and became a stepfather to Jesse, Jack and Jodi. Ed and Judi had two children Jolene and Jonathan. They made a home in Belfield until they divorced in 1982. In 1983 Ed married Barbara Roth. Together they made a home in Dickinson and they made beautiful music as the Dakota Rangers. They enjoyed making albums and playing all over the area. They traveled and enjoyed spending time with their children and grandchildren. Ed loved trains and has a model train set in his basement. He spent many hours with the train and making sure it was running perfectly so he could show it off to whoever stopped by. Ed was a member of St. Bernard’s Catholic Church and the Belfield City Council. He also served as a volunteer fireman while living in Belfield. When he moved to Dickinson he attended church with Barbara at Hillside Baptist and Barbara attended church with him at Queen of Peace. Together they enjoyed going for coffee with their friends, having card parties and having their family come to visit. When Barbara passed away last fall, Ed was lonesome. He made several trips to visit his daughters in Montana and felt some sense of happiness and peace there. He had recently decided to move to Montana and was in the process of doing that when he suddenly passed away. He was especially fond of Jodi’s oldest son Paydon and Jolene’s husband Mike. Paydon and Mike took the time to have happy hour with Ed, listen to his concerns and take him for rides in the new John Deere or just around the area. They visited for hours about old cars and trains and whatever Ed wanted to discuss. Ed also enjoyed visiting with Jodi and her family on the farm, Duke the dog, and just being around his family. Ed is preceded in death by his parents; his brother-in-law James Roth; his stepson, Jesse Osterhout; and his wife, Barbara. He is survived by his siblings, Jenny Roth, Dickinson, Herman (Georgeanne) Kubischta, on the family farm, Harold (Judy) Kubischta, Belfield, Carol Fisher, Tucson, AZ; his children, Jodi (Dale) Nelson, Homestead, MT, Jolene (Mike) Williams Culbertson, MT, Jonathan Kubischta, Euclid, OH; grandchildren, Paydon, Cordel, Nolan, Tony and Cody Ruth; one niece, Lindsey (Cody) VanderBusche and their daughters, Wren and Larkin of Bismarck, ND; his stepchildren, Doris, Myron and Sandy and their children and grandchildren; and Barbara’s siblings, Rose Opp, Delora Schroeder and Albert (Pearl) Luithle.
