Butler, who passed away early Monday morning at the Lutheran hospital, in Hampton, were held Wednesday afternoon at the Congregational church, in Hampton. Rev. D.M. Butler, who passed away early Monday morning at the Lutheran hospital, in Hampton, were held Wednesday afternoon at the Congregational church, in Hampton. Rev. D.M. Beggs, pastor, was in charge of the final rites and burial was made in the Hampton cemetery. Edward Ellis Butler was born near Milford, Illinois on December 15, 1878. He grew to young manhood in that community and graduated from the Milford high school in 1896, and he taught in the public schools for several years. He moved with his parents to Alexander, Iowa in 1902, and four years later was married to Miss Johanna Arends. Two sons were born to this union. Thirty-six years ago Mr. Butler severed his connections with the Great Western Railway to become one of the first city letter carriers of Hampton, and since that time had been employed in the postal service until his retirement several years ago. He united with the church in his youth and when becoming a resident of Hampton, he became a member of the Congregational church. He was also active in the Easter Star and held positions of trust in the Masonic lodge. Mrs. Butler preceded him in death twenty years ago. He is survived by his two sons, Edwin A. Butler of Los Alamos, New Mexico, and John W. Butler of Burbank, California; three brothers, Arthur M. Butler of Dows, James R. Butler of Ames, and Albert P. Butler of Downers Grove, Illinois; and two sisters, Mrs. Ruth Cone of Memphis, Missouri, and Mrs. Maude Collins of Topeka, Kansas.
