Read More	RECOVER BODY OF BIG SIOUX FLOOD VICTIM MONDAY Rites Held Wednesday For Edward F. Beeck, Of Westfield As had been feared by family and friends of Edward F. Beeck, of Westfield, since he had disappeared while driving his car on the Highway 12 near the west entrance of Stone Park, north of Sioux City, on Saturday, March 31, he was caught in the flood-waters of the Big Sioux river and washed downstream to his death by drowning. The auto he was driving from the Frerichs garage in Sioux City, where he was employed, was found unoccupied in two or more feet of water that night by searching officials. Two wheels of the car were off the pavement, but the driver could not be found. Search was carried on for several days after, but was hindered by the high waters. With the stage of water receding several feet, a general search was instituted Monday of this week by a crew of twenty men, including a Woodubry county deputy sheriff, and employing the motorboat of V. G. Adams, of Akron, piloted by "Hap" Davis, local municipal light plant superintendent of this city. The boat patroled the river banks, while the other crewmen worked along the dges with forks. In the afternoon they finally located the body of Mr. Beeck, which was wedged in about four feet of cornstalks on the west side of Highway 12, about 75 to 100 feet from the main channel of the river. Mr. Beeck, 42, was born February 27, 1919, near Hawarden, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Chris Beeck, and there he married Miss Mary Heubrock, July 26, 1940. They had resided in Westfield the past four years, and he was elected mayor of the town last November. He was employed at the Frerichs garage in Sioux City. Survivors include the widow and seven children ranging in age from 1 to 19 years. They include five sons; Edward, Jr., Thomas, Michael, Steven and DAvid, all of Westfield, and two daughters, Mary lou, and Linda, both at home. Other survivors include a brother, Paul of Le Mars; five sisters, Mrs. alvin Frerichs, Mrs. Edwin Frerichs and Mrs. Vincent Feauto, all of AKron; Mrs. William Koch of Hawarden and Mrs. Christ Albert of Kingsley, Ia., and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Chris Beeck of Chatsworth. Funeral service were held Wednesday afternoon in Immanuel Lutheran church, Rev. D. J. Roy officiating. Mrs. Stuart Harris was soloist and Mrs. Henning Shoulberg was organist. Pallbearers were Elmer Beeck, Otto Meins, Albert Beeck, Henry Urban, Raymond Osterkamp and Alfred Beeck. Burial was in Riverside cemetery. Akron Register Tribune Thursday, April 19, 1962 Akron, Iowa
