Arrangements are with Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City. Edward Francis was born Jan. 11, 1921, at Cascade, Iowa, the son of John D. and Margaret (Hemmer) Dehner. He was raised in Cascade. As a young adult, he came to Sioux County to work for Kepp Construction. On Sept. 8, 1948, he married Helen Marie Paekel in Alton. They made their home in Alton. "Ed" was a brick mason and carpenter, working for Kepp's most of his life. His health forced him to retire at age 58. In December 1999, he became a resident of the Paullina (Iowa) Care Center. In April 2000, he transferred to Heritage House. Mr. Dehner was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. He built a model of the church for the Alton and St. Mary's Centennial. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed hunting and fishing in earlier years. Survivors include his wife of 54 years; six children and their spouses, Mark and Julie Dehner of Bakersfield, Calif., Patti and Bob Runchey of West Bend, Iowa, Suzi and Ken Meis of Crescent, Iowa, Nittie and Richard Frerk of Paullina, Bob and Vicki Dehner of Vermillion, S.D., and Rick and Jan Dehner of Hinton, Iowa; 18 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother and his wife, George and Bernadine Dehner of Clinton, Iowa; and five sisters, Irene Till of Cascade, Dorothy Cool of Sun City, Calif., Viola and her husband, Robert Frasher of Guttenberg, Iowa, Rita and her husband, Joseph Beck and Margaret and her husband, Bernard Ernzen, all of Dubuque, Iowa. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, George; and two sisters, Mary Knepper and Florence in infancy.
