Description	:	Funeral services for Edward F. Mattern, 92, of Creighton, were held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 16 at St. Ludgers Catholic Church in Creighton with Fr. John Rizzo officiating. Burial was in St. Ludgers Cemetery. Pallbearers were Joseph Mathine, Neal Block, Greg Johnson, Edward Mattern, Ben Mattern and Andy Mattern. Edward Mattern was born September 9, 1895 near Winnetoon in Knox County to Stephen and Mary (Marks) Mattern. He died Friday afternoon, Nov. 13 at Lundberg Memorial Hospital following a long illness. He grew up on his parents farm near Winnetoon and attended country school a few years before moving to Creighton, where he attended school and graduated from St. Ludgers Academy. Then he attended Spalding College at Spalding. On April 3, 1918 he was married to Emily L. Huigens and to this union nine children were born. They farmed in Winnetoon and Creighton areas. He was a member of St. Ludgers Catholic Church and was a member of The Knights of Columbus. Survivors include his wife, Emily; four sons, William of O'Neill, Phillip of Omaha, Lawrence of Maryville, Mo. and Joseph of Lakewood, Colo.; five daughters, Mrs. Gordon (Jacqueline) Block of Verdigre, Mrs. James (Mary) Mathine of Creighton, Mrs. James (Alma) Nestlebush of Littleton, Colo., Mrs. Gerald (Madaline) Luckert of Maryville, Mo. and Mrs. Leonard (Lois) Johnson of Wheatridge, Colo.; 50 grandchildren; 61 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
