At a young age, his family moved to the St. Lucas area and he attended St. Luke's Catholic School. Eddie Riha then enlisted in the US Navy during World War II, serving from 1942-1946. He married Agnes Holthaus May 5, 1947 at Our Lady of Seven Dolors in Festina.
