Description	:	Edward Franklin Turner, 98, Vinton, Iowa, died Tuesday, Jan. 27, 1998, at his home after a lengthy illness. Born on Oct. 15, 1899 in the Mud Lick community of Monroe county, he was a son of the late William Harrison and Kitty Ellen (Carter) Turner. He attended country school and completed 12 years 12 years of education in Kentucky before moving to Iowa at the age of 18 to work for farmers. Read More	Edward Franklin Turner, 98, Vinton, Iowa, died Tuesday, Jan. 27, 1998, at his home after a lengthy illness. Born on Oct. 15, 1899 in the Mud Lick community of Monroe county, he was a son of the late William Harrison and Kitty Ellen (Carter) Turner. He attended country school and completed 12 years 12 years of education in Kentucky before moving to Iowa at the age of 18 to work for farmers. He married Vera Merchant on June 21, 1921 in Garrison, Iowa. He farmed all of his life in the Garrison area and moved to Vinton in 1962. His wife died Dec. 12, 1971. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Vinton. Survivors include five sons and four daughters-in-law - William Edward and Virginia Turner, Rye, N.Y.; Walter and Deane Turner, Mesa, Ariz.; Alvin Harrison and Doris Turner, Columbus, Ga., Del and Yvonne Turner, Myrtle Creek, Ore.; and Eugene Turner, Cedar Rapids, Iowa; three daughters and a son-in-law, Shirley and Ned Pippert and Wanda Gingrich, all of Vinton, and Sharon Turner, Chicago, Ill.; a sister, Alta Napper, Louisville; three brothers, Harlan Turner, Louisville, and Edgar and Beecham Turner, both of Tompkinsville. He is also survived by 28 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. His step-mother, a son-in-law, two daughter-in-laws, and eight brothers and sisters, all preceded him in death. Funeral services were held at First Baptist church in Vinton on Saturday, Jan. 31, at 10:30 a.m., with Rev. Walt Nickel officiating. Burial was at the Big Grove Cemetery near Vinton. A memorial fund has been established. Overton Family Funeral Home, Vinton, was in charge of arrangements. Source: Tompkinsville News
