Description	:	Edward Goemaat, 93, of Oskaloosa, died Thursday, July 23, 2009, at Northern Mahaska Nursing & Rehab Center in Oskaloosa. He was born September 16, 1915 near Harrison, South Dakota, the son of John and Winifred Van Woerkom Goemaat. As a young man, he farmed with his father, and in 1934, Ed moved to a farm west of Oskaloosa, and farmed. Read More	Edward Goemaat, 93, of Oskaloosa, died Thursday, July 23, 2009, at Northern Mahaska Nursing & Rehab Center in Oskaloosa. He was born September 16, 1915 near Harrison, South Dakota, the son of John and Winifred Van Woerkom Goemaat. As a young man, he farmed with his father, and in 1934, Ed moved to a farm west of Oskaloosa, and farmed. On November 18, 1937, he was married to Bernice Brummel near Leighton, and she died December 11, 1978. After his marriage, he was a hired man on farms until 1942, when he rented a farm east of Lake Keomah. Later, he farmed east of Rose Hill, and in 1965 bought a farm south of New Sharon, which he still owns. In November, 1977, they moved into Oskaloosa. On September 5, 1980, he was united in marriage to Mildred Prothero in the Little Brown Church at Nashua, Iowa, and Mildred died May 11, 2007. He had a life long love of the Lord, and was a long time member of Central Reformed Church, and had served as an Elder and as a Deacon, and in the Men's Brotherhood. He loved to do volunteer work, and was given the Governors Volunteer Award several years. He also enjoyed fishing, but his delight in life was his grandchildren, and spending time with them. His family includes his children: Eleanor Veldhuizen of Oskaloosa, Dolores (& Roy) Poe of rural New Sharon, Don (& Glenda) Goemaat, rural New Sharon, and Lois (& Cornie) Hol of Oskaloosa; 13 grandchildren; 35 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; two step children: Ruth Leithold of LaCrosse, Wisconsin and Vernon Lee (& Audrey) Prothero of Oskaloosa; 2 step grandchildren; a brother, Leonard (& Geneva) Goemaat, Oskaloosa; and a sister in law: Helen Goemaat of Oskaloosa. Besides his two wives, Edward was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Carol Goemaat; a grandson in law, Todd Ferguson; a great granddaughter, Mylee Poe; three brothers: John and Jake Goemaat, and another in infancy; and four sisters: Ardith DeVries, Daisy Molenburg, Anna Mae Van Duren, and Bessie Menning.
