Description	:	Edward Harold Cox, 89, of Ames, died Sunday, April 13, at Mary Greeley Medical Center. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 17, at Bethany Manor Chapel in Story City, with Chaplain Sandy Anenson officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at Bethany Manor. Edward H. Cox was born Sept. 9, 1918, in Storm Lake, the son of William Aaron and Fern (Burton) Cox. He moved to Ames in 1919 and lived there the rest of his life. He graduated from Ames High School in 1936. He also graduated from the Dale Carnegie School of Supervision Management and Sales. He married Blanche E. Lange Dec. 10, 1938. She preceded him in death March 26, 1975. Three children were born from this union, Barbara, Nov. 20, 1940, Michael, April 27, 1943, and Jeffery, Jan. 22, 1946. He married Olga (Peterson) Matters Jan. 3, 1979. She had two children, Delbert Matters and Rebecca Matters. He was employed by Clyde Black and Sons as foundation seed production manager and research director from 1936-75. From 1975-85, he was employed as vice president for agronomics services at Mike Brayton Seeds. In 1983, he started Research Ventures, a company that developed foundation seeds for corn hybrids and licensed the product to other seed companies. Beginning in 1983, he worked one third of his time at Mike Brayton Seeds and two thirds of his time cultivating his company, Research Ventures. In 1985, he retired from Mike Brayton Seeds and worked full time at Research Ventures until 1995. He served on several agricultural committees. At Iowa State University, he lectured on seed science. He served on the program committee of American Seed Trade Association and was American Seed Trade Association Representative to United States Feed Grain Council. He is survived by his wife, Olga Cox, of Story City; two sons, Michael (Jo) Cox, of Burwell, Neb., and Jeffrey (Cindy) Cox, of Highlands, N.C. He is also survived by two stepchildren, Rebecca and Delbert; nine grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; 17 step great-grandchildren; and one step great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his first wife and one daughter, Barbara.
