Description	:	"Herb" Hambrook, age 88, passed away Wednesday, September 30. Herb was born on July 19, 1921, in Ione Washington, to Daniel and Mary "Veron" Hambrook. Growing up in Ione, Herb graduated Ione High School in 1940. He then attended Gonzaga on a basketball scholarship until enlisting in the U.S. Air Force. Read More	"Herb" Hambrook, age 88, passed away Wednesday, September 30. Herb was born on July 19, 1921, in Ione Washington, to Daniel and Mary "Veron" Hambrook. Growing up in Ione, Herb graduated Ione High School in 1940. He then attended Gonzaga on a basketball scholarship until enlisting in the U.S. Air Force. After completing officer training at Drake University, Herb served stateside in Carlsbad, New Mexico, training bombardiers for the war effort. He met and married Phyllis Hall of Spokane, Washington, on September 23, 1944. Herb began his 32-year career in education as a teacher and coach in Ione in 1950, and later continued his education at Eastern Washington State College receiving his principal credentials in 1957. His tenure at Ione and later Selkirk High School lasted until his resignation in 1969 to accept a position as assistant principal at Ridgefield High School in Ridgefield, Washington. In 1982 he retired and moved to Spokane. Herb passed at home with family members present. He loved working with the students in the educational atmosphere. For years following his retirement, students continued to contact Herb to let him know how positively he affected their lives. His passion for knowledge followed him into retirement, being an avid reader and frequent visitor of the library. Herb was of sterling character and integrity. His engaging, subtle wit made him a joy to all those who loved him. He was a skillful woodworker, master gardener and frequently volunteered his talents whenever he could. He will be profoundly missed. Herb is survived by his wife of 65 years, Phyllis; daughter, Kaye, and partner, Scott McKinnon of Spokane; his daughter, Anne Nicks, and husband Dennis of Libby, Montana; his son, Edward, and wife Debi of Gig Harbor, Washington; his son, Mark, of Vancouver, Washington; his son, Matthew, of Woodland, Washington; his grandchildren, McKell Titland and Mika Hambrook of Seattle; Matt Hoyt of Puyallup, Washington; Natasha Hambrook and Matt Jr. Hambrook of Woodland, Washington; great-grandson, Nicholas Hambrook of Seattle.
