Description	:	Edward J. Long, 78, of Grand Island died Sunday, July 24, 2011, at his home. Edward was born May 17, 1933, in OConnor, Greeley County to Arthur and Helen (Buettner) Long. Survivors are: wife, Linda Long of Grand Island; sons and daughters-in-law, Clifton and Shannon Long of Columbus, David and Heather Stout of Grand Island, Edward Long of McCook; daughters and son-in-law, Cindy and Kevin Topinka of Cozad, Heather Long and Ashley Long, both of Grand Island; 10 grandchildren; sisters and brother-in-law, Delores Stueben of Grand Island, Veronica Mostek of Columbus, Mary and Dick Stromp of Spalding. Survivors are: wife, Linda Long of Grand Island; sons and daughters-in-law, Clifton and Shannon Long of Columbus, David and Heather Stout of Grand Island, Edward Long of McCook; daughters and son-in-law, Cindy and Kevin Topinka of Cozad, Heather Long and Ashley Long, both of Grand Island; 10 grandchildren; sisters and brother-in-law, Delores Stueben of Grand Island, Veronica Mostek of Columbus, Mary and Dick Stromp of Spalding. Edward grew up in St. Edward's area and received his education. He was united in marriage to Sandra Thinnes in 1964 in Grand Island. He later married Linda Friedricksen on Dec. 1, 1978, in Las Vegas. The couple made their home in Grand Island, where he was employed at Christiansen Construction and Kelly Wells as a welder and later at Gerhold Concrete in Columbus. He retired in 1980. Edward was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. He enjoyed playing cards, woodworking and carpentry. Edward was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Virginia Patzel. Burial was in the Cameron Cemetery, Wood River, NE. Published in The Grand Island Independent on July 26, 2011
