Jimmy was born July 23, 1931 to John and Kamilla (Uhl) Donohoe in Sioux City, Iowa. Jimmy grew up in O'Neill, NE., attending school there and graduating from St. Mary's (NE.)High School in 1949. On September 16, 1950, Jimmy married Dorothy Clark in O'Neill, NE. To this union, six children were born. She passed away December 26, 1965. Jimmy married Gloria McElhaney on August 19, 1967 in Neligh, Nebraska, with her two sons being added to the family unit. They made their home north of O'Neill, NE. Jimmy was a Dirt Contractor and Construction worker, moving dirt for residential homes, commercial stores and offices, county roads and many other projects. He could fix any road or any other problem that came along, and was never afraid to study and find a solution when the problem or challenge was an unfamiliar one. And those challenges in his life were many--one or two of which might have crushed the spirit of a normal person--but not Jimmy Donohoe. He met every one of these problems with optimism, cheerful determination, and a keen sense of humor, always successfully working out a solution, so he could continue to do the things in life he loved with the people he loved the most -- namely, caring for his wife and family, having morning breakfasts in town with friends, mending equipment in his tool shop or giving his time teaching repair work to someone, and especially, he enjoyed driving his road grader. He loved being around family reunions, playing poker with his grandchildren, enthusiastically supporting them and other local kids in their sports competitions, and always freely giving to strangers or friends in their time of need. Jimmy was proud of his Irish heritage, his Nebraska Cornhuskers, and his grandsons serving in our military, as well. Most of all, Jimmy loved to laugh and always had time to stop and share a joke or a story with you. He always found the best in everything and his contagious laughter and joy will be missed by all who knew and loved him. Jimmy Donohoe has left a wonderful legacy of memories of him to hold close and to pass on to family and friends in the coming years. He was truly an amazing man, and an inspiring example to us all in how to live life to the fullest and persevere to the very end, despite the many hardships along the way. We love and miss him so very much and await the future when we can join him in heaven with our Lord. In service to the O'Neill community and to his faith in God, Jimmy was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, the O'Neill Knights of Columbus, the O'Neill High School Booster Club, serving as president during 1980-1981, and an Honorary member of the O Club. Jimmy is survived by: wife, Gloria Donohoe of O‘Neill. NE.; daughters, Janie (Donohoe) Robertson and husband Pat of O‘Neill, NE. and Connie (Donohoe) Fuchs and husband Gene of Omaha, NE.; sons, Steve Donohoe and wife Elise of Mission Viejo, CA., Andy Donohoe and wife Linda of Rancho Santa Margarita, CA. and Ed Donohoe and wife Lori of Kearney, NE.; daughter-in-law, Jamie Donohoe Gaughenbaugh of Upton, WY.; step-sons, Richard Morlang and wife Cindy of O‘Neill; NE. and Vern Morlang and wife Robin of Belton, MO.; 27 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; sisters: Dorothy Donohoe Cloyd and husband Bud of Bellevue, NE., Karen Donohoe Rotherham and husband Jerry of Ewing, NE. and Margaret Donohoe Larson and husband Larry of Bellevue, NE.; brothers, Don Donohoe and wife Carolyn of Portland, OR, Wayne Donohoe and wife Pat of Glendora, CA., and Jerry Donohoe and wife Rachel of Round Rock, TX. Jimmy was preceded in death by: parents, John and KamillaDonohoe; wife, Dorothy Donohoe; son, Matthew Donohoe and brothers Raymond and Larry.
