Read More	EDWARD JAMES POPISH ALL ASPEN MOURNS DEATH OF ED POPISH Popular Native Son Died Suddenly Friday Morning After Brief Illness; Funeral Monday A friendly face is missing at the post office. Conscientious, obliging Ed Popish - Friend of old-timers who had known him from birth and of newcomers alike - succumbed to death early Friday morning. His passing was attributed to heart failure, caused by a long battle with diabetes. Relatives and friends came from distant points to share the sorrow of his widow, his mother, his sister, and brothers, and wide circle of Aspen relatives and friends. The entire business district closed up Monday morning so his funeral mass could be fully attended. The body was laid to rest in Red Butte Cemetery. Edward James Popish was Aspen's own boy. Born here on February 5, 1923, son of Mrs. Jennie Popish and the late Primosh Popish, he spent his whole boyhood here, attended school )Played first string basketball), courted lovely Patricia Kearns, and enlisted here in the U. S. Navy in November 1942. His Naval service lasted over three years. He trained in San Diego, Calif., went to school in Norman, Okla., and then was stationed at Alameda Air Base in California. His rating was Aviation Machinist's Mate, first class. After his discharge from the Navy in March, 1946, Ed accepted a job with Pacific Airmotive in Oakland, servicing planes, and that fall he came back to Aspen to claim his bride. He and Patricia Kearns, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Owen Kearns of Brush Creek, were married August 15, 1946 at St. Mary's Church. For over a year the young couple live in Oakland. There, their little daughter, Marlene Ann, was born on August 17, 1947. Then they came home to Aspen and in December '47 Ed took the clerk's position at the post office which he held till his death. Ed truly loved the hills, took keen delight in fishing and hunting. He had purchased his deer license last week and planned to be upon the trail early Monday before work. Secretary of the S.N.P.J., he was also an active, valuable member of the Aspen Post of the American Legion. He worked diligently on the room under the post office which the legion boys plan to occupy for a meeting place. Members of his immediate family left to mourn his loss are his widow, Mrs. Patricia Popish and daughter, Marlene Ann; his mother, Mrs. Jennie Popish; his sister, Lillian of San Francisco; four brothers, Joe of Aspen, Martin of Greeley, Louis of Mare Island, and Bernie who is stationed with the Navy in the Philippines; and his grandmother, Mrs. Antonio Vedic of Aspen. Miss Lillian, Louis, and Martin came for the funeral. Bernie's leave was denied by the Navy, but his wife, Joyce, came from San Francisco to join the family circle.
