The Odebolt Chronicle - Thu, Aug 7, 1930 - Edward Krahl, one of the pioneer citizens of this community passed from this life Sunday afternoon August 3, at his home on North Main street, after a gradual decline in health, largely incident to advancing age and heart trouble. Funeral services were held in the M.D. church in Odebolt. Interment was made in the cemetery at the Salem Reformed church where a daughter is buried. Edward Krahl was born Feb 10, 1847 in Bobenhausen, Darmstadt, Germany and at his death had attained the age of 83 years, 4 months, and 24 days. He was educated in the state school in his native land. He emigrated to the US in the spring of 1867, residing for 9 years at Mendota, IL. He then came to Iowa locating in Benton county. Here he met Miss Mary Reutzel to whom he was united in marriage in Oct 1867. She was a true helpmate and companion for him for more than 53 years. The young couple came to this vicinity after their marriage and a few years later purchased the farm in Clinton township, which was the family home for many years and where they reared their children. Having passed through the hardships of pioneering in the new country and their children having married and established homes of their own, Mr and Mrs Krahl retired from the farm and moved to Odebolt in April 1910. Mr Krahl was the father of one son and four daughters. One daughter passed away in 1906. Those left to mourn his passing are his wife, one son, John Krahl of Odebolt, and three daughters. He also leaves seven grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Relatives from away who were here for the funeral were: Mr and Mrs Henry Harting (daughter); Mr and Mrs Will Hemen of Sioux Rapids (daughter), and others.
