Description	:	Edward Lance Sterns was born February 7, 1939 in Raymond, NE to Gerald A. Sr. and Dorothy W. (Jones) Sterns. He was delivered at home by his grandmother, Dr. Agnes Houston Jones. He passed away on June 19, 2019 at Lakeview in Firth, NE after a valiant fight with cancer. He rarely complained about his situation. He was delivered at home by his grandmother, Dr. Agnes Houston Jones. He passed away on June 19, 2019 at Lakeview in Firth, NE after a valiant fight with cancer. He rarely complained about his situation. Lance is the second oldest of four boys born to Gerald and Dorothy. He is preceded in death by his father and brothers Gerald Jr. (Jet) and Albert. He and his youngest brother Marvin (Pick) have enjoyed the blessing of the opportunity to spend time with their mother for all of these years. At 102, she is enjoying a healthy life at the Waterford. Lance attended school in Raymond, Lincoln High and graduated from Douglas High school. He attended Peru state college. He met his future wife, Joan French, when he was living in Douglas. In fact, they had their first kiss on the steps of the Catholic Church one “Open Night.” Joan recalls Lance and his best friend Howie Rhoten driving around before school and picking up their girlfriends and giving them rides to school. Lance and Joan were married on August 10, 1958. They were married by the Rev Loyd Bliss and Rev Herman Heise in the Douglas United Methodist Church. (Lance said they needed two pastors, one to marry them and one to hold him up.) Last August they celebrated 60 years of marriage. He felt so blessed to have Gilmer and Eva French as his in-laws, he was like a brother to Judy and Monty. They truly loved him as one of their own. (If you want to know how to completely turn a car around in a garage and how to shoot arrows around corners, ask Monty!) When married, Lance and Joan lived in Gresham 2 years, Milford 24 years and currently live in Lincoln. They have two daughters, JoLane Moler and Traci Monson. Sons-in-law are Denny Moler and Tim Monson. Grandchildren are Tori Moler, Radley Monson and Maura Monson. Great grandchildren are Brelynn and Livvie Walker. Lance worked for Robert’s Dairy for 11 years and UPS for 27 years. He also worked various other jobs, one of which was driving a bus for Milford Public Schools. He retired at age 58 and went to work for Biggerstaff Plumbing and Heating and loved every minute of it. He and his mentor Harold, became best buds, and donut and coffee connoisseurs. Lance loved life! He loved spending time with family and friends – always the life of the party! He will be forever remembered for his sense of humor. As Tori often says, “My grandpa is the funniest person I know!” Minutes after his passing, a lifelong friend of Traci’s hit the nail on the head when she said “Heaven just got a lot funnier!” He enjoyed golf (and lunch after golf on league days), shuffle board, cards and dancing. Serving as a member of the Milford Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department is something he has been very proud of. He has many great memories of the men he served with in Milford. He served as Master of Hickman Lodge #256, was a member of the Scottish Rite, Sesostris Shrine and member of units- Chanters, Scimitar Patrol and Cruis’n Classics, and Chaplin of the Shrine in 2003. Lance was also a member of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church Survivors include his wife Joan (French), Daughters; JoLane (Denny) Moler of Lincoln, NE, Traci (Tim) Monson of Bloomington, IL. Grandchildren; Tori Moler of Wichita, KS, Radley Monson of Bloomington, IL, and Maura Monson of Bloomington, IL. Great-grandchildren; Brelynn Walker and Livvie Walker both of Wichita, KS. Mother Dorothy Sterns of Lincoln, NE, Brother Marvin (Judi) Sterns of Lincoln, NE, Sisters-in-law Yvonne Sterns of Bennet, NE and Judy Jensen of Omaha, NE, Brother-in-law Monty (Peg) French of Lincoln, NE.
