Services at Sacred Hearth Catholic Church, Rev. G.F. Lyon officiating, burial in North Lawn Cemetery. Mr. Parks was born on March 7, 1903, in Ayrshire. He married Laura Goyette on October 22, 1923, in Spencer, Iowa. They lived in Spencer until 1940, when they moved to Algona. The couple returned to Spencer in 1944 to farm. Mrs. Parks died in 1978. Mr. Parks was a member of the Spencer Fire Department for many years and was honored this year as one of the three surviving firefighters who had fought the famous 1931 Spencer fire. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. Survivors include five daughters, Colleen Mengelsen and Mrs. William (Gretchen) Birchard, both of Spencer, Mrs. Wirt (Darlene) Gilliam of Freeport, Illinois, Mrs. Harvy (Madelon) DeVries of Okoboji, and Mrs. Jerry (Erin) Dyhrkopp of Arnolds Park; three sons, Edward Jr., of Freeport, James of Spencer, and Jon of Milford; grandchildren and great grandchildren; three brothers, Bernard and Frank both of Spencer, and Leo of Okoboji, and one sister, Mrs. Mary Kundson of Des Moines.
