Born in Rawlings, MD, on June 27, 1925, he was the son of the late Edward Walter and Lettie (Flanagan) Lancaster. Born in Rawlings, MD, on June 27, 1925, he was the son of the late Edward Walter and Lettie (Flanagan) Lancaster. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Viola Lancaster and Bettie Jean Bloomfield; and brother-in-law, Jack Bryant.Ed was employed at the Kelly Springfield Tire Company for 40 years, where he worked as a tire builder.Ed was a member of the Highland Baptist Church where he served his church as a Deacon, Sunday school teacher, and sound technician. Ed was a New York Yankee and Atlanta Braves baseball fan, and he enjoyed deer hunting. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Bessie (Bryant) Lancaster; daughters, Janet L. Lancaster, Cumberland, and Dawna S. Murphy and husband Adrian, Cumberland; two grandchildren, Michalia Murphy and friend Jon Snyder, and Michael Murphy; brothers, Paul Lancaster and wife Evelyn, Cumberland, Rev. Jack Lancaster and wife Alida, Ft. Ashby, Rev. John Lancaster and wife Regina, Indiana, Rev. Otis Lancaster and wife Mabel, Rawlings, Rev. Walter Lancaster and wife Virginia, McCoole, Rev. Joseph Lancaster and wife Lois, Tennessee, and Stephen Lancaster and wife Sharon, Lonaconing; sisters, Mary Jane Wilson, Short Gap, Norma Hauser, Cumberland, Rozella Fraley and husband Ronald, Keyser, and Dorothy Dawson and husband David, Keyser.; and brothers-in-law, Tom Bryant and wife Louella, Cumberland, and John Bryant and wife Irma, Baltimore. Ed is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. Ed also leaves behind his best friend, William Scott, Ridgeley.In lieu of sending flowers, the family request those wishing to honor Ed's memory do so by making contributions to the Highland Baptist Church, 11911 Messick Road, Cumberland, MD 21502.The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Western Maryland Hospice team, especially Dr. Gary Wagoner, Mrs. Candy Adams, and his nurse, Kristie Doddrill. The family would also like to extend their gratitude to the many hospice workers and various sitters who aided in making Ed's life more comfortable. We also are thankful to Dr. Blanche Mavromatis for her compassionate care. Friends will be received at the Highland Baptist Church on Tuesday, January 10, 2017, from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Funeral services will be conducted at the church on Wednesday, January 11, at 11 A.M. with Pastor Michael Calhoun officiating. Burial will take place in the Waxler Cemetery. www.ScarpelliFH.com.
