Description	:	Edward Lewis Boyd was born Tuesday, Dec. 13, 1892 to 40-year-old Norwegian immigrant Lewis Boyd and his 32-year-old wife Cora on their farm near Hetland. He was the seventh of 11 children. He grew up as “Eddie,” farming with his father and his older brothers. Read More	Edward Lewis Boyd was born Tuesday, Dec. 13, 1892 to 40-year-old Norwegian immigrant Lewis Boyd and his 32-year-old wife Cora on their farm near Hetland. He was the seventh of 11 children. He grew up as “Eddie,” farming with his father and his older brothers. Like most farm kids more than a century ago, he went to school in Hetland only through eighth grade, working full-time on the farm after that. But World War I would interrupt Eddie’s quiet life. He registered for the draft at 24, on June 5, 1917, and his number was called in 1918. He was equipped as a soldier, but there is no record of him seeing combat. The war ended on Nov. 11, 1918, and Eddie headed back home. He was still single and farming with his parents in 1920, before marrying Edith Rydberg on June 15, 1927, when he was 34 and she was 23. The couple farmed south of Hetland, and had three children: Ronald, Leroy and Dorene, who married Dale Stricker. He farmed for 40 years after coming back home from the war, retiring in 1958 at 65. He enjoyed 11 years of retirement before his death at 76, on June 2, 1969. Edith survived her husband by 23 years, dying Sept. 5, 1992. They are buried in Nordland Cemetery, near Hetland.
