July 21, 1988 Carroll Times - Edward M. Feld, 79, founder and owner of Ed M. Feld Fire Equipment Co. and former Carroll fire chief, died Wednesday, July 20, at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll. He was 79. Mass of the Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 23, at Holy Spirit Church in Carroll. The Revs. Mervin Hood and Frank Nemmers will be concelebrants. Burial will be at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Carroll. Members of the Knights of Columbus 4th Degree served as honor guard.

Mass servers will be John Feld, Danny Irlbeck, and T.J. Twit. Lector will be the Rev. Frank Nemmers. Gift bearers will be granddaughters Elaine and Jean Kathlene McGuire and Rebecca, Jacqueline, Mindie, and Mollie Feld. Casket bearers will be grandsons James McGuire, Ed Feld, Gary Feld, Timothy Feld, Thomas McGuire and William Feld. Visitation will begin at 2:30 p.m. Friday at Twit Funeral Home in Carroll. Rosary will be recited at 3 and 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. There will be an Elks memorial at 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Born April 21, 1909, in Carroll, Mr. Feld was a son of William and Frances (Budden) Feld. He attended St. Lawrence School. On Nov. 20, 1934, he was married to Elaine Wirtz at Sacred Heart Church in Boone by the Rev. Ryan. Mr. Feld served as Carroll fire chief in 1957 and 1958 and served on the fire department from March 1936 to October I967 and in 1950, founded Ed M. Feld Fire Equipment Co. Inc.
In 1983, Mr. Feld received the Governor's Award for Outstanding Service, which is given to recognize 40 years or more of service in firefighting organizations and involvement in other community work. Mr. Feld served on the Carroll County Compensation Board. He was a member of the Holy Spirit Men's Club, Knights of Columbus 4th Degree and Elks Club. He was a former president of the Carroll Country Club and president of the Southwest Iowa Firemen's Association for 25 years. Mr. Feld is survived by his wife, Elaine, of Carroll; sons, Jay Edward Feld and his wife, Connie, of Dallas Center, William Feld and his wife, Judy, of Carroll and Dr. Thomas R. Feld and his wife. Dr. Donna Feld, of Cedar Rapids; a daughter, Joan (Mrs. James) McGuire of Peru, Illinois; 13 grandchildren; sisters, Mrs. J.J. Sapp, Mrs. Walter Lamberty and Mrs. Mildred Riesberg. all of Carroll; and a sister-in-law, Mrs. Wilbur Feld of Batle Creek. Mich.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Paul, Leo, and Wilbur, and a grandchild, Lawrence Jude Feld. |
