Edward Mathias Banowetz was born August 19, 1915 in Sugar Creek, Iowa, the son of William and Magdalena (Zeiser) Banowetz. He married Marie C. Lehnertz January 4, 1939 in Sugar Creek. The couple farmed in the Welton area and retired in DeWitt in 1969. Ed also worked for the Clinton County Highway Department and maintained the Clinton County 4-H grounds. Edward Mathias Banowetz was born August 19, 1915 in Sugar Creek, Iowa, the son of William and Magdalena (Zeiser) Banowetz. He married Marie C. Lehnertz January 4, 1939 in Sugar Creek. The couple farmed in the Welton area and retired in DeWitt in 1969. Ed also worked for the Clinton County Highway Department and maintained the Clinton County 4-H grounds. He also did woodworking, a hobby which he greatly enjoyed. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, DeWitt. Surviving are two sons, James Banowetz and his wife, Donna, Spragueville, Iowa, and Eugene Banowetz, Charlotte; a daughter, Janice Bormann and her husband, Eugene, Preston, Iowa; a daughter-in-law, Lila Banowetz, Bellevue, Iowa; 19 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren; a brother, Arthur Banowetz, Preston, and a sister, Loretta Peterson. Ed was preceded in death by his wife, Marie on May 4, 1999, his parents, a son, Wayne, a daughter-in-law, Delores Banowetz and two sisters, Marie Holdgrafer and Genevieve Knutsen. Family and friends may visit at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt, from 3 until 7 p.m. Sunday, November 16, 2003. Rosary 4 p.m. and Parish Vigil Service 7 p.m. Funeral Liturgy 10:30 a.m. Monday, November 17, 2003 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, DeWitt. The Rev. Fr. H. Robert Harness officiating. Interment at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, DeWitt. Pallbearers will be Mark Banowetz, Kevin Banowetz, Jeff Banowetz, John Banowetz, Loren Banowetz, Larry Banowetz, Tom Banowetz, Ronald Bormann, Neil Bormann and Nathan Bormann.
