Description	:	Edward Marquardt was born June 16, 1923 on the family farm in Crawford County south of Schleswig. His parents were Edward and Emma Jepsen Marquardt. He passed away at Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison on July 25, 2001. Edward was baptized April 30, 1924 at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. He was confirmed on Palm Sunday 1938 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig. He attended a rural school in Otter Creek Township. On January 20, 1946 he married Darlene E. Read More	Edward Marquardt was born June 16, 1923 on the family farm in Crawford County south of Schleswig. His parents were Edward and Emma Jepsen Marquardt. He passed away at Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison on July 25, 2001. Edward was baptized April 30, 1924 at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. He was confirmed on Palm Sunday 1938 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig. He attended a rural school in Otter Creek Township. On January 20, 1946 he married Darlene E. Kuhlmann at St. John Lutheran Church in Charter Oak. They farmed and raised seven children in Crawford and Ida counties. After retiring from the family farm south of Schleswig in January 1992, he and Darlene moved to a home on Elm Street in Schleswig. He worked part-time at I.B.P. for a couple of years after his retirement from the farm. Edward was an honest, hardworking man and he was a good neighbor, husband and father. He loved farming and especially enjoyed raising livestock. He also enjoyed visiting and playing cards with family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Helen Cassens, Lenora Henring, twin brother, Edgar, one son-in-law, Steven Crum and one grand daughter, Amanda Dirks. He is survived by his wife, Darlene of Eventide; his children, Edward Marquardt and his wife, Shirley of Sioux City, Rose Marquardt of Des Moines, Marsha Crum of Denison, Michael Marquardt and his wife, Cindy of Boone, Wanda Corbin and her husband, Marty of Defiance, Jean Schmidt and her husband, Jim of Schleswig, Lorna Desy and her husband, Gary of Denison; fifteen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, July 28, 2001, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig with Rev. Merle Mahnken officiating the service and graveside rites. Nancy Bielenberg served as organ accompaniment for the congregational hymns, "What A Friend We Have In Jesus", "Just As I Am, Without One Plea", and "Rock of Ages, Cleft For Me". Honorary pallbearers were Sherri Marquardt, Megen Marquardt, Melanie Vorsten, Emmalie Corbin, J'Lynn Schmidt, Jackie Schmidt and Trisha Dirks. Those serving as pallbearers were Edward R. Marquardt, Nicholas Marquardt, Shawn Corbin, Jamos Schmidt, Steve Vorsten, Jace Schmidt, Steven Crum, Nick Desy and Nate Desy. Following the committal service at the Morgan Cemetery in Schleswig, the Immanuel Ladies Aid prepared a lunch for those attending the service. The Huebner Funeral Home in Schleswig was in charge of arrangements.
