Description	:	Edward Newlin, son of James and Rachel Newlin, was born August 6, 1876, in Brown County, near Wetmore, Kansas, and departed this life in the Sabetha hospital, February 27, 1933, age 56 years, six months and 21 days. Read More	Edward Newlin, son of James and Rachel Newlin, was born August 6, 1876, in Brown County, near Wetmore, Kansas, and departed this life in the Sabetha hospital, February 27, 1933, age 56 years, six months and 21 days. Most of his life was spent near Wetmore, however, he and his family spent a few years near Soldier and have lived in Sabetha for the past six years. He was one of 10 children, only one Samuel, has preceded him in death. those surviving are: William of San Benito, Texas; Mrs Edith Ross of Norton, Kansas: Mrs Carrie Cooney of Mayetta, Kansas; Mrs. Lottie Randal of Corning, Kansas, who is his twin sister; Mrs. Mattie Yurst lf Tulsa, Oklahoma; James of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Arthur and Mrs. Bertha Hastings, both of Tulsa, Oklahoma. He is also survived by his mother, who resides at Horton at the age of 88 years. On January 1, 1901, he was united in marriage to Daisey White of Wetmore, Kansas. To this union were born seven children who, with his companion mourn his loss. The children are: Mrs Geneva Brenner of Lenape, Kansas; Mrs. Della Hinkle of Powhattan, Kansas; Mrs. Doris Calwell of Topeka, Kansas; Mrs. Berniece Lichty of Sabetha, Kansas; and Calvin, Lois and Carol of the home. He is also survived by six grandchildren: Jewell, Merrill and Eddie Newlin Hinkle, Doris Jean and Marion Brenner and Diana Lichty. In 1914, he with his wife, became a member of the Christian church at Soldier, Kansas. When they moved back to the old neighborhood they transferred their membership to the South Powhattan Methodist church and since coming to Sabetha they have worshiped with the Brethern church. He was also a member of the Masonic and Woodmen lodges. Mr. Newlin a conscientious Christian man and he was always interested in being a blessing to those about him. It was a very deep conviction with him, that it was his privilege to scatter sunshine wherever he went. His cheerful disposition and his sunny smile will rest as a pleasant benediction on the many friends who loved him. He was Conscientious in all his work, never shirking any part of his duty and was ready to cooperate pleasantry with any whom it was his privilege toward. In the past few weeks, when his body’s racked by the dread disease, cancer, which claimed his life, he bore his intense suffering patiently and with real fortitude and faith. It was his desire that he might regain his health that he might go out and serve again with his family and friends, but he was ready to place his trust in His Maker and leave all to those who are left behind, especially is that true to those of us who lived very close to him in those days in intense suffering. Altho his life was not as long in years as some, it has been a great blessing through its fine spirit of optimism and hope and he has left a challenge to those left behind to hold his torch high and never let it drag in the dust. Funeral services were held at the Wetmore Methodist church Wednesday afternoon at 2 o’clock with Rev. R. L. Frantz, pastor of the Brethren church of Sabetha, in charge. Members of Wetmore lodge No. 53 A. F. & A. M. were the pall bearers. Burial was in Wetmore Cemetery, the Masonic burial service being used. All of the deceased’s brothers and sisters except William of Texas, were present. The mother, who lives at Horton, was unable to attend. The following other out of town relatives also attended the funeral: Mrs. W. H. Dannels and daughter, Mrs. Chas. Mass and husband, and Mrs. Elizabeth White of Kansas City.
