Edward Riedman was born October 26, 1910 in Valley City the son of Inga and George Riedman. George nicknamed all his sons, and Edward became “Bill” to family and friends. Bill attended a country school in Sibley and Valley City schools. He began farming at home when the family moved to Luverne in 1922. He continued to farm when the family moved to the Riedman farm near Litchville in 1926. During the winters of 1936 and 1937 Bill wintered in California doing miscellaneous jobs and spending the spring and summer working on the farm. In the late 1930s he worked for North American Creameries where he delivered ice cream, etc. He continued to farm at home until 1942 when he entered the service. He spent 16 months in the states and 28 months overseas in the Aleutians. He returned home in 1945 and began farming with his brother, Ralph, near LItchville. He was running combine in the fall of 1999, when he turned 89. He married Marcella Heiling on January 21, 1952. She passed away in 1999. Bill was a member of St. Catherine Church, American Legion and lifetime member of the Elks land VFW. He was a township clerk for Skandia Township for 40 years. His biggest enjoyment was farming. He also was an avid sports fan and took great pride in the athletic achievements of his grandsons. He liked to check on his bluebird trail near his farm. Survivors and his sons Chuck (Mary Ann), Litchville, and Bill of Bismarck, two grandsons and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, four brothers and three sisters. Published in the Litchville Bulletin, Litchville, North Dakota, October 18, 2000. Submitted by Dennis C.
