Brooks Edward Roscoe Brooks was born December 16, 1867, in Dewitt County, Clinton, Illinois, and after a short period of illness departed this life at his home in Edgar, Nebraska, on August 7, 1937, at the age of 69 years, 7 months and 19 days. On December 16, 1888, he was united in the holy bonds of matrimony to Anna Mallory at Edgar, and to this union were born ten children. Five sons, William of Otho, Iowa; Herbert of Pueblo, Colorado; Norman of Ford Dodge. Iowa; Harry and Lloyd of Edgar; five daughters, Muriel Johnson, Gary, Indiana; Mabel Monike of Sutton, Nebraska; Hazel Heiberger of Denver, Colorado and Fern Flaherty of Hemingford, Nebraska, survive. One daughter died in infancy. When Mr. Brooks was still a young man he left his home in Illinois and came to Nebraska with his parents to live near Angus. In the year 1916 he confessed his faith in Jesus as his Saviour and was buried with him in Christian baptism, placing his membership with the Baptist Church where he has retained his membership until the time of his passing. The major part of his life has been spent on a farm a few miles north of Edgar, but in February, 1936, he with his wife came into Edgar to reside. It has only been for the past six months that his health has been failing until on August 4, he suffered a stroke which caused his death. Those he leaves to mourn his passing are his loving and faithful wife; nine living children, twenty grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, two half-sisters, two half-brothers, besides other relatives and a host of friends. He has been a kind and loving husband and father, a good neighbor and friend to all. His friendly way will be missed by relatives and friends alike for many a long day and yet we must all pass through the shadow of the grave into the land from which no traveler returns. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 1:30 at the Christian Church with Mr. Cecil V. Smith officiating. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Jacobsen, Gladys Hunter and Cecil V. Smith sang, "Going Down the Valley," "Must Jesus Bear the Cross Alone" and "Rock of Ages." Maryian Hoffman was at the piano. Pallbearers were his five sons and three sons-in-law, Lloyd, Will, Herbert, Norman and Harry Brooks, Ed Johnson, Chester Monike and Gene Heiberger. Interment was made in the Edgar Cemetery.
