Description	:	Edward was the son of Edward Ross Rippy and Susannah Thomas. Marriage record revealed Edward Rippy and Mary Elmore married on March 16, 1782 in Orange County, North Carolina. Edward was seventeen and Mary was about twenty-one when they married just one week before his birthday. The 1810 census revealed they were living in Rutherford County, North Carolina. Household members: Edward Rippy (45 & over), Mary (26-44), Edward & James (16-25) two males (10-15), Mastin (under 10), Anna & one female (under 10) and two slaves. The 1830 census revealed Edward was a farmer and owned twelve slaves. They were living in Rutherford County, North Carolina. Household members: Edward Tipy (60-69), Mary (60-69), James (20-29) and Anna (30-39). Pension application May 17, 1834, Rutherford Co. N.C. {{Edward Rippy aged 70, was born in Orange County, North Carolina in 1764 and was duly sworn according to law, that he entered the service of the United States in Orange County, North Carolina as a volunteer in the Revolutionary War in Sept 1780 for three months. In the Cavalry Company of Capt. George Hodge, Lieutenant Crawford and Ensign Baldridge, that he marched through the southern part of North Carolina on the Pedee and Cape Fear rivers, that he marched through Cheraw Hills in South Carolina and returned back and was discharged near Fayetteville, North Carolina. In February 1781, he was drafted to rejoin Capt. Hodge for the purpose of joining Gen Greens' Army but was taken prisoner by the British Army before they could join Gen. Green a few days before the Battle at Guilford Court House and was retained a prisoner by the British for five or six months in Wilmington, North Carolina where he was kept aboard a British Vessel until he was exchanged in September 1781. Edward was drafted again in the spring of 1782 for three months on guard duty in the town at Hillsborough, North Carolina. Edward received an arrears award of $116.66 and was granted a semiannual payment of $16.66.}} The 1840 census revealed household members: Edward Ripy (70-79), Mary (70-79), one female (20-29), two females (under 5) and one female slave (10-23). Their known children: Sarah Rippy (b.1789 d.1868) Edward Ross Rippy (b.1791 d.1874) James Martin Rippy (b.1793 d.1867) Anna Rippy (Turner)(b.1800 d.1880) Mastin Rippy (b.1802 d.1892) They had been married sixty-two years when Mary died in 1844. The 1850 census revealed Edward Rippy (87), a widower was a farmer and his real estate value was $800. He lived in Cleveland County, North Carolina and was born in North Carolina. His grandsons, Drury and Edward Turner and families lived in the two houses next to him and his daughter, Anna Turner and family lived three doors away. Roster of Soldiers of North Carolina Patriots in the American Revolution revealed Edward Rippy served in the Revolutionary War and died Dec 9, 1853 at the age of 90. Edward lived to age 90.
