Description	:	Edward Schafroth, one of the highly respected citizens of the city and country, passed in his reward Friday night August 11, at his family home where he had lingered for ten months with paralysis. The funeral was held Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the Methodist Church, the services being conducted by the pastor, Rev. E. S. Menoher. Edward Schafroth was born in Sardis, Monroe County, Ohio, March 26, 1856, and was aged 66 years, 5 months, and 15 days. He was the son of John and Elizabeth Schafroth, both of whom are died when he was seven years of age, and which three within three weeks of each other. Thus bereft of his parents at the early age of seven, he made his home with his brother Fred and sister, Mrs. Henry Walter, where he received the best of training. He came to Adams County when twelve years of age with them and continued to reside with them until his marriage to Miss Elizabeth Hedinger, December 7, 1880. For a time they lived on their farm in Mercer Township and later purchased a farm in Nodaway Township, where they resided until 1911, when they decided to take life easier and removed to Corning, which has since been their home. Three children were born to them, Henry of Nemaha, Iowa, Clarence of Corning, Iowa, and Mrs. C. F. Brown of Guss vicinity, who with the faithful wife and mother survive him. He also leaves five grandchildren, two sisters, Mrs. Carrie Bogert and Mrs. Mary Wacichliof, Allentown, Pennsylvania. Three brothers and three sisters having passed before. Mr. Schafroth was converted about thirty years ago and was identified with the Evangelical Church for many years and later transferred his membership to the Methodist Church. He was a true Christian gentleman, faithful to his Master and church and was a devoted husband and father and a kind and helpful neighbor and leaves a host of friends who regret his going. No citizen in this locality has been higher respected or held in greater esteem than Mr. Schafroth and our citizens and our city are the better for his having lived among us. It has often been said that "Ed Schafroth's word was as good as a bond," which is a high record of his influence in the community. Adams County Free Press, August 19, 1922, page 18
