Description	:	Edward Stoebner, 106, of Eureka, South Dakota, died Tuesday, November 20, 2007 following a seven year stay at the Hosmer Senior Citizens Home. His funeral service will be 10:00 AM Friday, November 23, 2007 at the Eureka Reformed Church with Rev. Richard Stetler officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Friday. Burial will follow at the Eureka City Cemetery with military graveside rites. Organist will be Julie Bentz and Ed's great niece, Kayla Stoebner, will sing "Amazing Grace, how Sweet the Sound". Edward Stoebner, son of Magdalena (Heer) and John Stoebner, was born May 15, 1901 on the family farm 12 miles southwest of Eureka. He grew up on the farm where he worked with his parents and brothers and attended rural school. In 1925, his parents moved into Eureka. Ed and his brother Bill took over responsibility for the family farm. They farmed in partnership until 1939 when Bill took sole responsibility for the family farm. Ed moved to Eureka, South Dakota. He worked at miscellaneous jobs for several years. He served his country in the United States Army, being inducted October 12, 1942. Following his honorable discharge on March 31, 1943, he returned to Eureka. In 1945, he bought a small farm on the South West edge of Eureka where he raised cattle until retiring in 1968. He married Emma Ehrmann at Aberdeen, South Dakota on July 29, 1947. She died December 17, 2004. Ed belonged to the Eureka Reformed Church, the Fred Weller American Legion Post No. 186 at Eureka, South Dakota, and the Eureka Senior Center. His hobbies included fishing, baseball, playing cards and pool. Ed is survived by numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, 6 brothers, and 3 sisters. Casket bearers will be Ed's nephews, John and Joe Stoebner of Aberdeen, his great nephew, Matt Stoebner of Aberdeen, and Ervin Beck, Perry Hoff, and Stanley Pfeifle of Eureka. Lien-Straub funeral Chapel, Eureka, is in charge of arrangements.
