He was a founding father of Olympia, building the first hotel and water/power supply. He was also Fire chief, proprietor, owner of Young's Hotel, and the mayor. An antique platform rocker belonging to E.T. and Josephine Dofflemyer Young, his wife, was donated in 2007 to the Washington Historical Museum.
