Services were held Friday, April 3, 1998 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Boone, Iowa, with Rev. Allen Henderson officiating. Burial was in the St. Paul's Cemetery with Military honors at gravesite by the Boone Veterans Council. Edward Ahrens was born in Harrison Township, Boone County, Iowa the son of Andrew and Clara (Murken) Ahrens. He attended country school in Boone County and lived all his life in Harrison Township, Boone County, Iowa. Edward was a self-employed carpenter and farmer, he built houses, corn cribs and barns, he farmed in Harrison Township. Edward was a WWII veteran, and served in the US Army. He married Fern Annabell Johnson on October 22, 1946 at the St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Boone, Iowa. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, a member of the American Legion, he attended Bible class at his church and served as Township Clerk of Harrison Township, served as cemetery warden for St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery. Edward enjoyed reading National Geographic Magazine. His hobby was to repair and store clocks. Survivors include his wife, Annabell Ahrens, his two sons and daughters-in-law, Rodney and Louise Ahrens of Boone, Iowa, Joel and Becky Ahrens of Ames, Iowa, his daughter and son-in-law, Charlene and Rodney Goetz of Ledyard, Iowa; his six brothers and sister-in-law, Warren and Carly Ahrens, Lawrence and Bonnie Ahrens, Raymond and Delilah Ahrens all of Boone, Iowa, Jean and Alice Ahrens of Bull Shoals, Ark., Dean and Ellen Ahrens, Dale and Donna Ahrens all of Stratford, Iowa; his sister and brother-in-law, Ann and Gene Otte of Clarinda, Iowa, his five grandchildren, Cameo Ahrens, Matt Ahrens and his wife Kelly, Justin Ahrens, Ryan Goetz, Stephanie Goetz. He was preceded in death by one son, Charles Edward Ahrens, his sister, Iris Frazier and his parents. Memorial contributions may be given to St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 281 Spruce Lane, Boone, Iowa 50036. Schroeder Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
