Description	:	During World War I, Private Edward Witrhlik served from October 3, 1917, to March 2, 1919 in Company "E" of the 59th Infantry Division of the U.S. Army World War I. He was pleased to have survived this war and to have helped the United States and the Allies defeat the German Empire and the Austro-Hungarian Empire and also thereby to have facilitated the revolution by which Czechs and Slovaks overthrew Austro-Hungarian rule and established an independent Czechoslovak Republic in the lands where his parents are other Czehc ancestors had been born. The two following obituaries were posted to this Memorial by Lois Frahm who also created this FAG Memorial. * * * * * The following obituary appeared of 10 Nov 1960 in the "Blue Hill Leader" and in the "Pauline News": "Edward Witrhlik: Word was received by Mrs. Joe Samek of the death of her brother-in-law, Edward Witrhlik, of Hastings who passed away Friday morning at the age of 69. Funeral services were held Monday morning in St. Cecilia's church and burial was in the Blue Hill Cemetery. * * * * * The following obituary was published by the "Blue Hill Leader" on Nov. 17, 1960, on it front page: "Edward Witrhlik Services in Hastings "Services were held Monday morning at 9:30 at St. Cecilia's church in Hastings for Edward Witrhlik, 69, who died unexpectedly. Msgr. Michael Grogan officiated at the funeral Burial with VFW military honors was in the Blue Hill cemetery. "Witrhlik, who was born Oct. 7, 1891 in Chicago, Ill., came to Nebraska where he farmed until 1948 when he moved to Hastings. He was a World War I veteran and a member of the American Legion. "He was married in 1941 to Stella Lukas. One daughter, Diane Witrhlik was born to this union. "Surviving are his wife, Stella, daughter, Diane, two sisters, Mrs. Josephine Kalvoda of Lincoln, and Mrs. Mamie Berchen of Hastings, and one brother, Joseph Witrhlik of Lawrence. * * * * * Lois Frahm added the following note to Edward Witrhlik's Memorial: "He married a second time to Stella Lukas on 7 Oct 1941. Stella is buried in Parkview Cemetery in Hastings, NE."
