Description	:	Funeral services for Edwin Charles Plesek, 88, of Chelsea, were Friday, Feb. 4, 2011, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Chelsea, with Deacon Joe Behounek officiating. Interment was in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Chelsea, with military rites by Benda Sell American Legion Post of Chelsea. Mr. Plesek died Jan. 30, 2011, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids, following a lingering illness. Pallbearers were Josh Behounek, Tom Baker, Troy Behounek, Matt Behounek, Allen Plesek and Jake Behounek. Edwin Charles Plesek was born Feb. 19, 1922, at Chelsea, the son of Joseph and Julia Uchytil Plesek. He received his education in Chelsea and graduated in 1939, went to radio school and joined the Army. He served his county from 1942 to 1946 and was stationed in India in World War II. He married Lucille Marie Breja on April 16, 1951, in Vining. Together, they were the parents of three children, Joe, Carol and Theresa (deceased). He moved to his present home in the 1970's. Edwin farmed in the Chelsea area for many years. For a time he worked at Collins Radio in Cedar Rapids and later worked at Amana Refrigeration. He retired in 1985. When he was younger, he loved to hunt, trap, fish, look for arrowheads and collect artifacts. He loved big band music. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Chelsea, the American Legion and the Catholic Foresters. He is survived by his son, Joseph L. and Vicky Plesek, Chelsea; daughter, Carol and Tony Behounek, Omaha, NE; seven grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille, on May 18, 1991; his parents; sisters, Agnes Klenk, Alice Klenk, Lucille Kalinay and Helen Baker; brothers, Raymond and Albert Plesek; and daughter, Theresa in 1961. Hrabak Funeral Home, Belle Plaine, was in charge of arrangements.
