Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday in the chapel of the Mason- Lindhart Funeral Home with burial in the Coon Rapids Cemetery. Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday in the chapel of the Mason- Lindhart Funeral Home with burial in the Coon Rapids Cemetery. Edwin Earl Johnston, the son of Ralph and Dorothy (Bartlett) Johnston was born February 12, 1935 in Coon Rapids. As a child, he made his home with his family in various communities in Iowa and completed his education at Lone Tree. Edwin was involved in Goodwill Industries in Sioux City where he learned the trade of shoe repair. He practiced his trade in Glidden until moving to Humboldt County where he was active in Humboldt Work Shop and established Ed's Shoe Repair. He was united in marriage to Dorothy McClain on August 9, 1984 and the couple made their home in Humboldt. Mrs. Johnston passed away in 1990. Mr. Johnston was a member of the Oak Hill Baptist Church in Humboldt. He was a fervent advocate for the handicapped, visiting schools and discussing the challenges and accomplishments of handicapped people and served as a lobbyist for issues of the handicapped at the Iowa legislature. Mr. Johnston is survived by his brother, Ralph Johnston of Fort Dodge; a brother Kevin Johnston of Fonda; two sisters, Carol Burge of Phoenix, AZ; and Joyce; his nieces and nephews; and his greatnieces and nephews. Visitation will be Friday from 1 to 4 p.m. at the funeral home.
