Description	:	Edwin E. Frye, Sr. Age 88 died December 30, 2012 in Medina Hospital in Medina, Ohio. He was born on Oct 7, 1924 to Mr. and Mrs. Grover Frye of Shelbyville. Missouri. He spent his first six years in Shelbyville, Missouri until his family moved to Canton, Missouri where they lived. He graduated from the Canton High School in 1941. After completion he was sent... Read More	Edwin E. Frye, Sr. Age 88 died December 30, 2012 in Medina Hospital in Medina, Ohio. He was born on Oct 7, 1924 to Mr. and Mrs. Grover Frye of Shelbyville. Missouri. He spent his first six years in Shelbyville, Missouri until his family moved to Canton, Missouri where they lived. He graduated from the Canton High School in 1941. He then entered the U.S. Navy on December 7, 1942. He was sworn in at Great Lakes and had his boot training. From there he went to Aviation Training at Navy Pier in Chicago, Illinois. After completion he was sent to Olathe, Kansas, where he was put in a squadron of transport planes flying to the South Pacific. When the war was over he returned to Canton and entered Culver Stockton College. He received a degree in Business Administration and Education. Upon graduating he was asked by the local Postmaster to work for the Post Office, He worked for the Post Office for 33 1/2 years. After retiring from the Post Office he did substitute teaching in Lewis County Schools. He followed this by working in the County's Assessors Office doing tax reassessment. From there he was hired as Director of the Lewis County Center for the Development of the Disabled in Lewistown. Missouri. He retired from there to work for the Assessor's Office again; He worked there until he retired for good. He was always interested in civilian and local affairs. He was elected as an alderman in Canton and served 3 terms. Then he ran for mayor and was elected for 2 terms. He was a member of the Canton Christian Church and served as a deacon and as a member of the Church Board. He later joined Immanuel United Methodist Church in Canton. He was a member of the Senior Housing Board and served as chairman of the Board when the last new building was built. He was a member of the American legion Otto Bruner Post 170. He served as commander of the post when the new building was being built. He was a member of American legion for over 50 years. He was a member of Craft Lodge for over 5O years - serving in all positions, including Master of the Lodge. He also was a member of the Nemo Shrine Club. Other organizations he served were the Draft Board (during peace and war time). He also served on the P.T.A. - Parent Teachers Organization. He was a member of the Canton Fire Department for over 25 years. Mr. Frye married Shirlee Lukes Evans of Clarendon Hills, Illinois. They have one son, Edwin E. Frye, Jr. who was a Lt. in the U. S. Navy serving on the destroyer, The John King, during the Vietnam War. He retired as a Lt. Commander. He now is a mechanical engineer working in Cleveland, Ohio. Mr. Frye is survived by his son, Edwin Frye, Jr. and his wife Violet (Torpey), two grandsons, Zachary and Joshua Frye and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and all of his brothers and sisters. Mr. Frye will be remembered for his love and devotion and support to his family, his civic service and his dedication to his church. Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 5, 2013 at 10:00 AM at Arnold's Funeral Home in Canton with Pastor Amanda Ross officiating. Burial with graveside military honors will be in the Masonic Cemetery at Shelbyville, Missouri. Visitation will be held Friday evening from 6 until 8 PM with Masonic services at 7:30 PM at Arnold's Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to American Legion Otto Bruner Post #170. Pallbearers: Zachary Frye, Joshua Frye, James Ketter, Bill Dorris, Richard Blackmore and Jeff Shuman.
