Description	:	Eddie was born on May 16, 1928, in Bellevue, the son of William and Edna (Ernst) Reeg. He married Dorothy Beckley on June 22, 1953, at Saint Mary’s Church in Dubuque. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was severely injured during his first year in Korea and was awarded the Purple Heart and a Silver Star. He married Dorothy Beckley on June 22, 1953, at Saint Mary’s Church in Dubuque. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was severely injured during his first year in Korea and was awarded the Purple Heart and a Silver Star. He worked as a truck driver for various creameries for most of his life after working for the former Savanna Army Depot for 10 years. He was a member of Saint Peter’s Lutheran Church and the American Legion Post #273 of Bellevue. Ed loved to travel and drove everywhere they went. He was an avid Chicago Cubs fan and loved to get together with family to play euchre. He cherished his wife, Dorothy, and was proud of his six children and always tried his best to attend as many of the grandkids’ events as he could. He is survived by his wife Dorothy; children Shirley (Gary) Deppe, of DeWitt, IA, Danny Reeg, of Key West, IA, Ronnie Reeg, of Bellevue, Terry (Sue) Reeg, of Dubuque, Rick (Emily) Reeg, of Belle-vue, Amy Reeg, of Bellevue; 15 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; brothers Perly (Katy) Reeg and LeRoy (Jeanne) Reeg; and 2 sisters, Arlene (Cletus) Victor and Linda (Norbert) Lampe. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers William, Robert, and Carlyle; and a daughter-in-law Nancy Reeg. In lieu of flowers, an Edwin Reeg memorial fund has been established. Ed’s family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at Mercy Medical Center for all their caring and attentive care of Ed and his family Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory 2595 Rockdale Road Dubuque, IA 52003 SILVER STAR CITATION: The Silver Star is awarded to Private First Class Edwin F. Reeg, Infantry, Army of the United States, a member of Company M, 23d Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, who distinguished himself by gallantry in action on 19 September 1951 in the vicinity of Pia-ri, Korea. On this date Company M had the mission to cover the strategic withdrawal of a friendly unit. During this action it became necessary to move a machine gun to a position from where it could be more effective against the onrushing hostile force. Without hesitating, and with complete disregard for his personal safety, Private Reeg voluntarily crossed the fire-swept area and placed his weapon in an exposed position. From this point, he employed a heavy concentration of fire upon the hostile forces, inflicting numerous casualties upon them and continued this action until his wounded comrades were evacuated. When it was again decided to more the weapon so that its full fire power could be utilized, Private Reeg, despite the intense enemy fire, carried his machine to a new emplacement. In the course of this action, he was seriously wounded and evacuated. Through his courageous efforts, friendly elements were able to complete their mission successfully, and his wounded comrades were safely evacuated. The gallantry in action displayed by Private Reeg on this occasion reflects great credit upon himself and the military service.
