Edwin Fairbanks, after several months of intense suffering caused by cancer, quietly passed away last Sunday. He bore his sufferings with fortitude and patience. Mr. Fairbanks was born in Whitingham, Vt., August 23, 1840. His early life was passed on the farm known as the Synder place. He was a veteran of the civil war, serving three years in the Ninth regiment, Company K of Vermont. When there was a call for volunteer service he was always ready. He was engaged in several battles. November 27, 1868, he was married to Miss Etta May of Marlboro, Vt., and they lived for about 30 years in North Heath, on the farm recently owned by E. Gale, they then went to live in South Whitingham, Vt., where he died. He was a good husband and a kind neighbor, and will be greatly missed. He leaves a widow, three brothers, Henry E. Fairbanks of North Heath; Odid C. Fairbanks of Whitingham, Vt., and Herbert Fairbanks of Ansonia, Ct., also two sisters, Mrs. Dudley Burrington of West Dover, Vt., and Mrs. Rufus Porter of Colrain. The funeral took place at the house this morning, Rev. Easter Brooks of Wilmington conducting the service, and the burial was in Maple Grove cemetery.
