Mr. Rector lingered between life and death from the time of the accident about 3 o’clock yesterday afternoon, until 6:30 this morning, at which time he passed away. During the hours of suffering through which he lingered, it is said that he, at times regained consciousness to a sufficient degree to leave a few parting words and instructions with his bereaved ones. Mr. Rector had been assisting in sawing some wood when about 3 o’clock in the afternoon he was standing by the buzz saw when it suddenly burst, throwing pieces of the blade in all directions, one of which struck him just above the right eye with such force that it tore an ugly gash through the right half of his skull and cut the brain in a fearful manner. Mr. Rector was taken to the McLaughlin home in an unconscious condition and Dr. M. Bannister and Dr. S. E. O’Neill, of Ottumwa were immediately summoned and rendered all the aid within the limit of medical power, but the wound was of such a nature that recovery was an impossibility, and at 6:30 o’clock this morning, death ensued. Mr. Rector was a man in the prime of life and leaves a wife and three children, one boy and two girls, the oldest being but five years of age. He has resided on the farm about four miles west of this city for a number of years and was most highly esteemed as a man and neighbor. His death comes with an awful shock not alone to his wife and members of his family, but is most deeply mourned by the entire community. The funeral services of Mr. Rector will be held tomorrow afternoon at 3 o’clock at the residence, conducted by Rev. Loveall, pastor of the Methodist church at Chillicothe. The interment will be made in the Burns Cemetery.
