Bell, b. Nov. 9, 1838, in Connecticut; d. Feb., 1866 or 7. Married in Akron, Ohio, April 15, 1865, Reuben (or Lyman) Payne, b. Aug. 29, 1820, in Portland, Conn.; d. there Feb. 27, 1897; farmer and fruit grower. He m. (1) Mary Norton Clark, by whom he had three children. Child of Abbey A. Bell: Dwight J., b. Aug. 21, 1866, in Portland, Conn. ; educated at high schools in Penfield Hill and Portland and business college ; lives in Kalamazoo, Mich. ; manufacturer of hammock chairs and folding furniture. Dwight J. Payne, m. June 12, 1889, Ella L. Parmalee, b. May 20, 1868, daughter of Wilbur Fisk and Lodisca Clarinda (Blatchley) Parmalee. HARRIETT AMELIA ABBEY, daughter of Anson and Clarissa (Taylor) Abbey, born November 16, 1829; died March 1, 1856. Married September 13, 1852, EDWIN BELL of Portland, Conn. His first wife was Prudence M. Abbey, aunt of Harriett, and by her he had seven children. Children of Harriett Amelia Abbey 1 - Charles Henry Bell, b. Nov. 20, 1853, in Portland, Conn. Merchant; director of First National Bank of Portland ; partner in Bell and Anderson, manufacturers of Anderson Lead Pipe Coupling ; shareholder in quarries. Married May 24, 1877, Elizabeth B. Crossland, of Waterbury, Conn., daughter of Edward and Mary (Briggs) Crossland. Children: i. Clifford Hawkins, b. May 21, 1880, was graduated from Yale University and is a lawyer in Hartford, Conn. ; ii. Douglass Gerald, b. June 1, 1883, d. , lived in Detroit, Mich. 2 - Lucy Johnson Bell, b. May 27, 1856; d. Sept. 13, 1887. Married Ernest D. Spaulding of Portland. Children : i. Madge, m. Darwin Carter, lives in Ira, Ohio ; ii. Edwin Bell, pharmacist in Scranton, Pa., m.
