Helmer, 60, 528 South Governor Street, died at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon in a local hospital after an illness of 10 days. He was the son of Josiah and Eva Helmer and was born October 28, 1880. His father died when he was quite young. He and his mother moved to Ohio following the death of his father and lived there until 1903, when they moved to near West Liberty. November 6, 1909, he married Susie Lightner of West Liberty. They farmed until 1921, when they moved to Iowa City. He is survived by his widow; two daughters; Mrs. Carl Harned of Iowa City and Mrs. Alvin Rohmoeller of Los Angeles, California; three sons, Carl of Los Angeles, Floyd of Iowa City, and Glenn D. at home; one step-brother, Bernard H. Nichols of Wadsworth; one step-sister, Myrtie Wilkinson, of Cleveland, Ohio; and two grandchildren, Betty Lou and Dale Francis Harned. Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock tomorrow afternoon at the Oathout funeral chapel with the Rev. Elmer E. Dierks of the Methodist church in charge. Burial will be at West Liberty.
