Edwin was born June 16, 1920 to John P. and Paulina (Dorrheim) Schneider, on the family farm in Morton County, about 14 miles South of Hebron, ND. Schneider, 99, Bismarck, passed away on November 9, 2019 at Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center, Bismarck. Edwin was born June 16, 1920 to John P. and Paulina (Dorrheim) Schneider, on the family farm in Morton County, about 14 miles South of Hebron, ND. He attended Stark County Country School #4 and Hebron High School. Edwin was drafted during World War II. He entered the US Army on February 20, 1942 and served with Company B 99th Signal Corps Battalion. His World War II overseas duty included Australia, New Guinea, Philippines, Okinawa, Iwo Jima, Kure and Hiroshima, Japan. He was honorably discharged as Sergeant on November 24, 1945. Upon returning to North Dakota, Edwin taught elementary school in Taylor, ND. In 1946 he started farming small grains and livestock with this father south of Antelope, ND. On January 7, 1948, Edwin married Elizabeth “Liz” Luithle, at Neuburg Congregational Church near Burt, ND. They farmed south of Hebron until 1957 at which time they moved to Bismarck. Throughout the years, he worked for John Zoller Construction, the John Deere Dealership and the State Highway Department. In 1960, Edwin went to work for the City of Bismarck. He retired in 1986 as the Waste Water plant foreman. Ed and Liz enjoyed traveling. They traveled to all 50 states (including a cruise to Alaska), Canada, and Europe. They celebrated their 50th anniversary with a Caribbean cruise. Edwin was a proud Veteran and had the honor to participate in the April 2010 ND Veterans Honor Flight with his son Dalles. Beyond traveling and volunteering, Edwin liked to do crossword puzzles and garden. He earned his Master Gardener Certificate through the NDSU County Extension Agency. With this, he was able to teach and share his love of gardening to others. Edwin and Liz spent much of their time volunteering together with RSVP, delivering books to residents at the Baptist Home. They were members of Bismarck Baptist Church, sang with the Senior Saints Choir, members of the German’s from Russia organization and sang with the German Singers for 15 years. Edwin was a member of the VFW, AMVets, American Legion, Disabled American Veterans and the ND Iwo Jima Veterans Association. Edwin was a volunteer for the Disabled American Veterans Transportation Network and logged over 10,000. Edwin is survived by his four sons, twelve grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, one brother, and many nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his wife Liz on November 17, 2012; his parents and siblings, Ida Heinle, Louise Hirning, Bennie J. Schneider and Freida Opp.
