Eddie was born August 22, 1917 in Bristow, Nebraska to Joseph and Agnes Bohac. He attended Morningside College in Sioux City, Iowa and graduated from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln in 1939. After teaching mathematics and social studies and coaching baseball, basketball, and track in Riverdale, Nebraska, he joined the Navy in 1941. Eddie served four years of active duty during World War II in both the Atlantic and Pacific theaters, including special operations with the Tenth Fleet. Upon leaving active duty he joined the Navy Reserve, retiring with the rank of Lieutenant Commander after 30 years. While stationed in Washington, D.C., he met and married the love of his life, Catherine Albert. Since Catherine was a native of Georgia, the couple settled in Macon, GA where they raised their family of three children. Eddie was a manager for the National Cash Register Company (NCR) and transferred to the Columbia, SC office in 1971. He retired in 1982 after 35 years of service. Eddie loved history, reading, traveling, sports and spending time with his family. He was known for his quiet intelligence and calm, modest demeanor. His kind, honest, and straightforward approach to life was a positive influence to all who knew him. In Columbia, Eddie was a member of the Providence Presbyterian Church, the Shepherd Center, Retired Navy Officer's Association, and the Zane Gray Society. He is survived by his wife of sixty-seven years, Catherine Albert Bohac of West Columbia, daughters, Lynne and Karen, son Edwin J. "Buck", and sister, Charlene Smith, as well as five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He will be missed by all who knew him.
