Description	:	Edwin L. Boothroyd, Sr., 95, of Britt, passed away Saturday, May 26, 2012 at Westview Care Center in Britt. Edwin will be cremated according to his wishes. Military graveside services will take place on Wednesday, May 30, 2012 at 2:00 PM at Evergreen Cemetery in Britt. Ewing Funeral Chapel in Britt has been entrusted with arrangements. Edwin was born on April 12, 1917 in Mason City, Iowa, the son of Herbert Boothroyd and Cora (Hemming) Boothroyd. At the age of 4 he and his mother moved to Thornton where he received his education and graduated from Thornton High School in 1934. After graduation he moved to Britt, Iowa where he enlisted in the Army Air Force. He went to Officers Candidate School and served as an Air Force Captain during World War II. While in the service, he met and married his wife, Betty (Paranteau) Boothroyd in July of 1944 in Gulfport, Mississippi. After being honorably discharged from the service, he and Betty returned to Britt and operated a grocery store for 15 years. He later went into construction and built a total of 35 houses in Britt. In 1997, Ed suffered a stroke and in 1999 he entered Westview Care Center where he remained until his death. We would like to thank the entire staff, especially the nurses and CNA's for the exceptional love and care they gave to Ed and his entire family throughout his almost 14 year stay at Westview. No one could ask for better care and compassion than that given to him at Westview Care Center. Ed is survived by two sons, Edwin R. Boothroyd and his wife Mary Lou and their three sons and their families: Todd and wife Kara and their three children, Mitch, Katie, and Rachel of Clive, Iowa; Tony and wife Kelly and their 6 children, Tiana of Okinawa, Ty, Trevor, Travis, Troy, and Taylor of rural Boone, Iowa; and Toby and wife Bonnie and their three children, Delaney, Evan, and Emily of Britt, Iowa. His son, James and friend Sandy of Mason City, Iowa; a half brother, Herbert and his wife Barbara of Gainsville, Florida, and a half sister, Bonnie Lowry, of North Carolina. He was preceded in death by his wife Betty in 2000, a brother Harold in 1940, and by both of his parents.
