"Bud" Abbas By: 01/02/2001 July 25, 1925-Dec. 25, 2000 HAMPTON-Edwin L. "Bud" Abbas, 75, of Hampton, died of natural causes Monday, Dec. 25, 2000, at Franklin General Hospital in Hampton. Funeral services were Friday, Dec. 29 at First Congregational United Church of Christ in Hampton, with Rev. Gregory Smith officiating. Burial was in the Hampton Cemetery in Hampton. Bud was born on July 25, 1925, in Osceola Township, Franklin County, to George and Ida Lauterbach Abbas. He was raised in Franklin County and graduated from Geneva High School. He served in the military as a corporal stationed in Trieste, Italy, and was a general's driver. On Sept. 25, 1955, he married Dorothy Pandil in Hampton. He worked for North Central Farm Service for 42 years, 23 years as a tank wagon driver and 19 years as operations manager until his retirement in December 1996. Bud was a member of the Congregational United Church of Christ and enjoyed spending time with his family, and watching his children and grandchildren in sporting events. He also like to travel and play golf. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy of Hampton; two daughters, Sherry and her husband, Wesley Swieter, of Ackley, and Shelly and her husband, Les Craighton, of Hampton; a son, Brad and his wife, Sherri, of Sacramento, Calif.; grandsons Nolan and Clay Craighton, and James Abbas, and granddaughter Lyra Abbas; four sisters, Arlene and her husband, Donald Horner, of Hampton, Gertrude and her husband, Lee Himan, of Ames, Lena Salven of Marion, Norma and her husband, Roger Palmer, of Hampton; two brothers, George and his wife, Donna, of Hampton, Bob and his wife, Ilene, of Hampton.
