Description	:	Newton Edwin "Ed" Davis was born on August 14, 1902 on his parent's farm in Grand Valley Township in Dickey County, North Dakota to Newton Edwin Davis and Emily "Emma" Maria (Brander) Davis. He later went by Edwin N. Davis probably because his father was also Newton, so it was easier to go by Edwin. Read More	Newton Edwin "Ed" Davis was born on August 14, 1902 on his parent's farm in Grand Valley Township in Dickey County, North Dakota to Newton Edwin Davis and Emily "Emma" Maria (Brander) Davis. He later went by Edwin N. Davis probably because his father was also Newton, so it was easier to go by Edwin. His parents also owned a home in the nearby town of Ellendale, so the children could go to the schools there. Ed attended and graduated from Ellendale High School. All seven of the children attended the State Normal and Industrial School and Ed received a Teacher's Certificate from the State Teacher's College in Ellendale. Ed married Mary Elizabeth Gebhardt on February 24, 1933 in Leola, South Dakota. He lived in Rock Springs Wyoming for a while and was a clerk in a hardware store and mortuary there. Then returned to Ellendale to farm his father's farm and his own farm. Ed's father Newton managed the farm with his two of his sons, Frank and Ed until his death. After that Ed took over management of the family farm in Grand Valley Township in 1929 and lived on the homestead until his own death in 1979. Over the years, Ed increased the size of the farm. Ed served the North Dakota Legislature as a member of the House of Representatives from 1953 to 1965. He served as a Past County Chairman for the Republican Party. He was a School Clerk for Spring Valley School District for 30 years. Also for 30 years he served as Treasurer for the Grand Valley Township board. He was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church, Ellendale. Ed and Mary had four children: Newton E. "Newt" Davis was born April 5, 1934. Anna Mae Davis Edwards was born in about 1937. John Bartley Davis was born about 1948 and Joan M. Davis Jackson was born about 1952. Newton Edwin Davis (Edwin N. Davis) died on December 21, 1979, with funeral service at Zion Lutheran Church and burial in the Ellendale City Cemetery in Ellendale, South Dakota. After his death his wife, Mary, continued to live on the farm until her own death in 1999.
