Description	:	Edwin R. Moats, 89, formerly of Hancock, MD and a resident of Homewood of Williamsport since May 1996, died Monday, January 19, 1998 at Homewood. Born November 12, 1908, in Hancock, he was the son of the late Dallas and Alice McLucas Moats. He attended a one-room school near Hancock. He was employed by B&O Railroad in his younger years. From 1942 to 1944, he was employed by the War Department in Alexandria, VA and then was employed as a mechanic for 33 years by Stewart Motor Co., Washington, DC. Moats, 89, formerly of Hancock, MD and a resident of Homewood of Williamsport since May 1996, died Monday, January 19, 1998 at Homewood. Born November 12, 1908, in Hancock, he was the son of the late Dallas and Alice McLucas Moats. He attended a one-room school near Hancock. He was employed by B&O Railroad in his younger years. From 1942 to 1944, he was employed by the War Department in Alexandria, VA and then was employed as a mechanic for 33 years by Stewart Motor Co., Washington, DC. He then opened Moats Grocery, Hollow Road, Hancock, for 18 years until his retirement in 1987. He was a member of Stone Bridge Church of the Brethren, Hancock; and a member of AARP. He is survived by his wife, Carrie Younker Moats, whom he married November 14, 1936; two daughters, Azilee Holland, Hickory, NC and Susan Barton, Hancock; two sons, Robert Moats, Lothian, MD and Ronald Moats, Hancock; one brother, Raymond Moats, Hancock; six grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by five sisters, Olive Shott, Cora Sosey, Ethel Keefer, Ester Seburn and Della Weller; and six brothers, Lloyd Moats, Roy Moats, Harry Moats, John Moats, Walter Moats and Ira Moats. Services were held at 2 p.m. January 22 at Stone Bridge Church of the Brethren, Hollow Road, Hancock. The Rev. Harry E. Strite officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery. Arrangements were by Grove Funeral Home, 141 W. Main Street, Hancock. Memorial donations may be made to Stone Bridge Church of the Brethren, c/o Wayne Winters, 318 Town Drive, Greencastle, PA 17225.
