According to the IGI at familysearch.org, Edwin Southworth Johnson married Malinda Southworth Washburn in about 1838 of Guilford, Piscataquis, Maine. Published in the Piscataquis (ME) Observer 18 Mar 1880 p3: "Mr. Johnson, an old gentleman, who formerly resided in Guilford, died at the residence of his daughter, Mrs. J. F. Norris, in Foxcroft, on Monday forenoon last." Published in the Piscataquis (ME) Observer 29 Apr 1880 p3: "Edwin S. Johnson died at the residence of his daughter, wife of Rev. James F. Norris, in Foxcroft village, on the fifteenth day of March, 1880, aged 77 years and 10 months. He was born in Easton, Massachusetts, May 15th, 1802. His father, James Johnson, was great grandson of Judge Johnson, whose father, Sir Isaac Johnson with his lady came from England to Massachusetts in Queen Anne's reign. When twelve years old, Edwin's father died. In 1823, he and his mother came from New Gloucester, Mass., on the place now owned by John G. Herring, in East Guilford, on which place he built a house and barn, which house still remains as a monument to his early industry. At that time there was no road from the river to the Brown road, and all supplies had to be carried on the back, through the woods on a spotted line. In March, 1834, Mr. Johnson was married to Malinda S. Washburn, of Hebron, Maine, and brought his wife to Guilford. Here their first child was born, a daughter who lived but a few months. From this place they moved to Foxcroft, where a son was born, who lived to be 1 1/2 years old. They moved from here back to Guilford, where Mrs. Norris and Mrs. Charles Howard were born, but soon afterwards moved back to Foxcroft, where another daughter and the youngest child, Mrs. Will H. Owen was born. They again moved to Guilford, upon the place now owned by James Noble, where their house was burned, living on the place ten or eleven years. They moved again to Foxcroft, and lived on the farm on the Brown road twenty-four years, till 1879 when they removed to Milo, to live with their daughter, Mrs. Owen where Mrs. Johnson died in a few weeks. Mr. Johnson was a man of positive characteristics, and his unswerving honesty and truthfulness in all business dealings, were remarkable features of his life. After the death of his wife July last, he felt that he was a pilgrim and a stranger, and life had no charms for him. His constant prayer was to go home, to his Father's House, that he might enjoy that peace and rest not found this side the grave. He had fought a good fight, and finished his course. His life was ripe for the reaper, and the harvest was an answer to his prayers. 'On earth one less, In heaven one more.' D.L.S."
