Description	:	Ed Rose was the son of Roderick & Anna Ferneau Rose and the brother of Nellie Rose. He never married. Like his father, he was a lawyer but he didn't practice law as much as he did that of court stenographer. He was born in Davenport on November 7,... Read More	Ed Rose was the son of Roderick & Anna Ferneau Rose and the brother of Nellie Rose. He never married. Like his father, he was a lawyer but he didn't practice law as much as he did that of court stenographer. A paragraph from his obituary in the Jamestown Weekly Alert (Jamestown, Stutsman Co., ND) October 6, 1904 says: Edwin Stanton Rose was a familiar figure in the daily life of Jamestown where he has lived since the family moved to this city from Davenport, IA., in 1884. He was born in Davenport on November 7, 1869. He has been the official court stenographer in this judicial district for about fifteen years, beginning services when the state was a territory, and shortly after his father, the late Judge Rose, had been appointed one of the territorial judges of Dakota. He has continued the occupation of court stenographer since then without intermission, serving under Judge Rose for two terms, and under Judge Glaspell for almost two terms. Ed Rose, as he was familiarly called, had a host of friends throughout the district as well as the entire state, who will regret his untimely demise. He was a young man staunch in his friendships, honorable and upright in all his dealings a hard worker, a genial comrade, and to his family a most devoted member. Some 21 years ago he was admitted to the bar of the state, and at intervals assisted his father in the practice of their profession, and since the death of the late Judge Rose in September 1903 has attended to legal duties whenever his health would permit. For over a year he has battled with the dreaded disease that finally became victor, and has carried the burden with cheerfulness and philosophical resignation that the same event inevitably comes to all, both young and old. Mr. Rose was a member of the Masonic order, the Elks and the Bachelor's Club. He died of tuberculosis at his home.
