He was the son of Eb and Molly Lewis who were early settlers in the Newell vicinity. He received his education in the local schools, graduating from high school. He was united in marriage to Nora Belle Huxtable in 1902. They lived on a farm in Buena Vista County. One daughter was born to this union. Mrs Lewis passed away in 1912, leaving the husband and little daughter, a tragedy that we can scarcely estimate. From here on, Mr. Lewis entered the field of public service. He served in the Commissaries during World War I being Sergeant at Camp Dodge during his time in Service. He later worked as chef in Sioux Falls, Sioux City, Iowa City and Storm Lake. He had worked in the Snyder Cafe before entering the Service. Mr. Lewis lived at the Soldiers Home in Knoxville, Iowa for the past 18 years. During this time his health was not at the best. Death came at 11:40 a.m. at the Veterans Hospital in Des Moines where he had gone for treatment. In his passing he leaves his daughter, Mrs. Genevieve Stoyles of Clear Lake, Iowa, three grandsons and one granddaughter and five great grandchildren. He also leaves a brother, Ray Lewis of California and a sister, Mrs. H.B. Olson of Arkansas. He was a member of the Methodist Church which he joined early in life. He was a member of the American Legtion and the Independent Order of Odd Fellows Lodge. In the work of his life he met many people. He gave what he had to his 83 years of life. Who can estimate the good he has done? Funeral services were held for Mr. Lewis Saturday, Nov. 30, at the Baak Funeral Home with Rev. William Bohi the clergyman in charge . Special music was given by Rev. Bohi and Lyle Smith singing with Mrs. Dean Rogers accompanying them. Attendants were Richard Stoyles, William Stoyles, Orville Barber, William Phillip[s, Bob Lewis and Max Sinn.
