Description	:	Edwin Woodrow Shope, 92, of Woodrow Shope Road, Franklin, passed away Thursday, Feb. 2, 2006, in a local hospital. A native of Macon County, he was the son of the late Edgar Virgil and Elizabeth Ledford Shope. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Betty Jo Nichols of Waynesville; four sisters, Nell Ledford, Mae Ledford, Mary Stockton and Agnes Caldwell; and two brothers, John Shope and Prioleau Shope. Read More	Edwin Woodrow Shope, 92, of Woodrow Shope Road, Franklin, passed away Thursday, Feb. 2, 2006, in a local hospital. A native of Macon County, he was the son of the late Edgar Virgil and Elizabeth Ledford Shope. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Betty Jo Nichols of Waynesville; four sisters, Nell Ledford, Mae Ledford, Mary Stockton and Agnes Caldwell; and two brothers, John Shope and Prioleau Shope. He was a U,S. Army veteran of WWII, where he received a soldier's medal for saving a soldier's life. He retired from the U.S. Forest Service with 28 years of service. He was a charter member of the VFW Post 7339 and American Legion Post 108; a member of the Square Dance Hall of Fame (he loved to square dance); and a member of the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. He participated in 3,000 military funerals and was one of the originators of the VFW Post 7339 Funeral Detail. He was awarded the Iron Man Award for Funeral Detail by the VFW; the 1983 Georgia State Clogging Festival for outstanding clogger; outstanding service award by the Union Precinct Democrat Party; the Ray A. Taylor Service Award by Democratic Party and 11th Congressional District; the outstanding award by Macon County Democratic Party; and the Liston B. Ramsey Service award by 11th Congressional District Democratic Executive Committee. He was a Democrat and believed everyone should cast their votes on Election Day. He prayed for his family by name on a daily basis and he always found good in people. He loved to farm and garden and loved to play cards with his family and friends "as long as he was winning." He loved to fish and camp and loved to eat with all the campers at Standing Indian when he was working there. He was proud of every one of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, his in-laws and above all his loving wife who has been by his side for more than 57 years, the family said. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Holden Shope; two daughters, Ruth Shope Dowdle and husband Ronnie of Otto, and Lynn Shope Nicholson and husband Tommy of Franklin; two sons, Aaron Keith Shope and wife Gail, and Edwin Wade Shope and wife Carolyn, all of Franklin; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Sunday, Feb. 5, at 3:30 p.m., at Prentiss Church of God, with Revs. Don Moffitt and Randy Drinnon officiating. Burial was at Woodlawn Cemetery. Pallbearers were Charles Sanders, Mike Shope, Spence Ledford, Bobby Shope, Wayne Shope and Don Shope.
