Genevieve (Miller) Rutledge was born February 18, 1922, at Inavale, Nebraska. She passed away at her home in Nelson, Nebraska, April 23, 1998, at the age of 76 years, 1 month and 5 days. She attended school in Inavale and graduated from high school there. March 11, 1942, in Franklin, Nebraska, Edythe was united in marriage to Wayne S. McClure. This union was blessed with six children. They lived in the communities of Oak, Angus and Nelson, Nebraska. Edythe was a member of Nelson Community United Church of Christ. She taught Sunday School, Bible School, Bible Study and held various offices in the church. Here church was a very important part of her life and she had been a member for more than 60 years. She also assisted with the operation of the Nelson Community Thrift Shop. Edythe loved and was loved by many many children over the years. Her home was a welcoming place for all who entered, especially her family. The bond she shared with each of them was very important to her. Preceding her in death were her parents; a brother, Raymond Rutledge; and a granddaughter, Stacy Jayne Brown. Survivors include her husband, Wayne of Nelson, Nebraska; two sons, Gary McClure and his wife Marlys of Nelson, Nebraska, and Allen McClure and his fiancee, Tracie Hovey, both of Hastings, Nebraska; four daughters, Jayne Brown and her husband Scott of Friend, Nebraska, Ruth Watts and her husband Tom of Fairfield, Nebraska, Betty Kilmer of Hastings, Nebraska, and Kay McCord and her husband Monty of Juniata, Nebraska; 14 grandchildren, James, Jeremy and Christopher McClure, Kayla Brown, Kris, Amanda and Anna Watts, Allana Kilmer, Sarah, Preston, Dillon and Tianna Nitz, Shannon McClure and Erin McCord; three sisters, Mareta Fletcher and her husband Fred of San Leandro, California, Margaret Rutledge, Williston, Vermont, and Iva Jean Behm and her husband Jerald of Bremerton, Washington; nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends. Funeral services were held Monday, April 27, 1998, at 2 p.m., at the Nelson Community United Church of Christ in Nelson, Nebraska, with Rev. Ralph Sturdy officiating. Music was "He Lives", sung by the congregation, and "Mansion Over the Hilltop" and "Just A Closer Walk With Thee", sung by Alfred and Janell Hanson, with Carlita Price as organist. Interment was in the Nelson Cemetery. Pallbearers were Bob Eilers, Edgar Tietjen, Albert Ahrens, Arnold Brown, Yale Meyer and Vaden Kramer. Honorary bearers were Corrinne Good, Donna Hawley, Blanche Statz, Fern Troudt, Mildred Eilers and Lyla Brown. Klawitter-Price Funeral Home of Nelson, Nebraska, was in charge of arrangements.
